About Copycat
Copycat Communications was created in January 2011; the pet project of Ed Holmes.
Having turned 30 in 2010, I decided I needed a new creative outlet for the skills gained in a writing career spanning more than a decade.
Copycat Communications is not just about freelance work, but also an opportunity to share my passion for the English language. Through blogging, online debates and instructional factsheets, I hope to see people gain more confidence and accuracy in their writing, even if their increased skills means losing a potential customer.
My career in writing, journalism, PR, press offices and publishing is varied. While studying philosophy at university, I held the post of features editor on the Cardiff University student newspaper.
After spells as a labourer, white van man, estate agent and editorial assistant on a glossy magazine, I took up a junior reporter post on a large local newspaper group in the Midlands, where I gained my professional journalism qualification, the NCTJ.
After a spell doing public relations for Renault dealerships across the UK, I moved to the press office of a Government skills council before taking up a similar post in a professional engineering body, where I currently work.
For a number of years, I have taken freelance writing work for several companies; everything from a large multinational broking software company to online fashion magazines.
